Education Programme
In our school, we believe that Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education (PSHCE) will help students to further their knowledge, skills and understanding which they need to lead confident, healthy, independent lives and become informed, active, responsible
citizens. PSH&CE allow students to be involved in every aspect of daily life in our society and as citizens of the world
Aims
The aims of Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education are to enable the students to:
Know and understand what constitutes a healthy lifestyle:
Be aware of safety issues:
Understand what makes for good relationships with others:
Have respect for others:
Be independent and responsible members of the school community:
Be positive and active member of a democratic society:
Develop self confidence and self esteem and make informed choices regarding personal and social issues:
Develop good relationships with other members of the school and the wider community
PSHCE Policy
Life Studies
The ‘Your life’ programme for KS3 and KS4 a comprehensive programme which addresses the requirements by the National Curriculum framework UK for PSH&CE began in term 2, 2007 and is currently being monitored. It is vitally important for external support from various
agencies in order to assist staff and pupils in their learning, especially in the areas of Citizenship Education, which include Government issues, The Law and Human Rights issues. Sex and Relationship Education receives positive support from the Health and Social welfare Directorate staff.
PSH&CE
Recent efforts have included more Citizenship Education particularly through Community Involvement where our students are engaged in care for our people, caring for our environment and also in Careers Education through Work Related Learning. Reports to parents include
reference to PSHCE.
Religious assemblies
These take place every Tuesday. The programme is run by the Anglican Diocese and is open to students of all denominations. Any students can request to refrain from participating in these assemblies on religious grounds. These assemblies address citizenship, moral and spiritual health issues.
Citizenship assemblies
These are held at least twice a month or more frequently depending on topical issues that may arise within the school or in our community to include for example opportunities for visitors from overseas to share life experiences or information with our young people
