Key Stage 4 Science
The science dept offers 3 separate courses at KS4, these are:
· IGCSE Coordinated Science (double)
· GCSE Single Science
· Agricultural Science
The Coordinated and Single Science is based at site at Prince Andrew whilst Agricultural Science is based at the Harpers Agricultural Centre a short distance from the school.
Coordinated Science covers biology, chemistry and Physics topics, at 6hrs per week. Students take examinations which gain 2 IGCSE qualifications. The examination consists of a multiple choice paper and a written paper (totalling 80%) plus 20% coursework that students complete throughout the year. Coordinated Science provides an excellent base to progress to the A-levels in Science.
Single Science covers topics in all 3 sciences for 3 hrs a week, resulting in 1 GCSE grade.
The examination consists of 2 written papers totalling 75%, and with 25% coursework.
Agricultural Science includes courses at GCSE or a Vocational course (CVS). The course offered depends on the needs of the students who opt. The courses are based at Harpers Agricultural Centre.
Key Stage 5 Science
Students entering A-Level AQA courses in Biology, Chemistry and Physics must get a minimum of BB for Coordinated science.
Current students are continuing with AS and A2. Students commencing courses in September 2014 will commence the Linear A Level.
